Ask a Honda owner to describe their Accord in a single word. The number one answer provided is as dependable as the answer itself: Dependability. While there are many reasons the Honda Accord has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States for the past twenty years, we have but to listen to the owners themselves as they respond in the best way possible. Accord owners favor buying new Accords when the time comes to hand it down or sell the old one after many long years of reliable service.
As Honda presents the all-new Accord for 2016, they’ve given return buyers and new customers alike even more reasons to join the Honda family for years to come. An array of choices and options across a wide spectrum of available trims can certainly make the decision simultaneously difficult and simple.
The 2016 Honda Accord is available as a four-door sedan and as a two-door coupe. Sedans come in six trim levels, from the base LX, the Sport, EX, EX-L, EX-L V6, and the Touring. The Coupe comes in five trim levels, from LX-S, EX, EX-L, EX-L V6, and the Touring Coupe.
The 2016 Accord is the first in the Honda fleet to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing compatible cell phones to integrate with the Accord’s entertainment system. Hands-free operation and Accessibility control is also included by way of Apple’s Siri and Google Voice, though each is compatible for use with the steering wheel buttons or touchscreen commands. Smart phones will be able to take advantage of this cutting-edge integration by implementing navigation and entertainment apps directly through the vehicles on-board systems. A pair of over and under screens are built into the dashboard to provide further control and access to the wealth of data now available from these multiple data sources.
The Interiors design clearly demonstrates that in this new era of integrated information and entertainment systems, we do not have to sacrifice style in order to provide form and function. The one-touch power moon roof, 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback, heated outboard rear seats, multi-angle rearview camera, and remote start are just a few of the features that provide added comfort while further demonstrating the Accord’s capacity to adapt to the advances in technology as well as the Human Condition.
The Exterior features a newly designed grille and LED daytime running lights and taillights. LED headlamps are optional for both the coupe and sedan while featured standard on the Touring. A variety of new wheel designs is available for pairing with select trims. For example, the LX features 16in wheels while the Sport and Touring feature stylish 19 inches wheels. Whoever said the Accord is lacking in class just might be looking for love in all the wrong places.
The Engineering There are two available engines for the Sedan and Coupe: a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder (185 hp) and a 3.5-liter V6 (278 hp). A 6-speed manual transmission is available in all four-cylinder models. All trims are front-wheel drive and have a 17.2-gallon fuel capacity. We’ll be discussing the engineering features in detail in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back to learn what Honda’s engineers have been doing back in their Secret Laboratory.
Honda has stepped up its offerings for the 2016 models by adding the option to include Honda Sensing to every trim level save for the Touring for which it comes stock equipped.
The Honda Sensing is a highly advanced suite of passive and active safety features, including Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
