Canadian Hondas now being Built in China

There's a good chance that Honda Civic from Honda Superstore Of Joliet, located at 3225 North Plainfield Rd in Joliet, IL is imported from China, not Japan. A recent decision to build cars in China lets the auto maker receive higher profits. The Japanese yen is so high, it's cutting into automotive production. "The yen has been getting stronger and stronger," Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada, said.1

Don't worry, Canadian Honda buyers are unlikely to notice any changes, since the company is implementing the same procedures and materials used in Japan facilities.

Honda Fit for Canada is another vehicle in question, coming from a Chinese facility.

Honda does have a manufacturing presence in Canada, and these China-produced vehicles don't seem to be a threat. 400 additional workers are being hired to work in the Alliston, Ontario plant. Fit sales were lower than expected last year, but are expected to increase in 2012, according to the auto maker.
