The minivan remains the quintessential form of transportation for families big and small. No other vehicle offers the type of versatility and space for kids and the copious amount of stuff that invariably comes along with them. The 2011 Honda Odyssey in Joliet is a completely redesigned entry among this dwindling number of minivans, replacing a model that was widely considered to be the best in its class for a decade.
The 2011 Honda Odyssey at Honda of Joliet has gained an inch-plus in width, creating a slightly sleeker appearance aided by a wedge-shaped front fascia and unique "lightning-bolt" character line. Aside from being a design flourish, this character line also improves visibility for passengers in the third row of seats, who will also enjoy a greater amount of knee and shoulder room.
The Odyssey introduces a small refrigerated storage compartment beneath the center stack controls, a trash bag holder, second-row seats that shift laterally to make room for child seats and a wide-screen entertainment system with an HDMI input.
You don't need to have kids to appreciate the Odyssey looks. The fact that it's a family vehicle is almost concealed by its low-slung, modern profile, which is both attention-grabbing and aerodynamic. Its rear roofline spoiler with integrated brakelight complements the Odyssey's athletic stance. Standard on Touring models, the 18-inch alloy wheels complements its aggressive styling, and lend the Odyssey a unique, desirable appearance. EX-L and above models come standard with a power tailgate for ultimate ease of use. Power sliding doors (EX and above) can be easily operated with the remote entry system from up to 50 feet away. And Touring models feature Body-Colored Parking Sensors (front and rear), so form and function are seamless. High-intensity discharge (HID) headlights are standard on the Touring Elite model, and power side mirrors with integrated turn indicators come with both Touring and Touring Elite models.
The all-new Odyssey is packed with features designed to make your life easier. The driver's seat features 10-way power adjustment, including power lumbar support (EX and above), so you're in complete control of your world, with all you need either hands-free or within hands' reach. With simple verbal commands, you can choose your soundtrack using Honda's new Song By Voice® feature (models with navigation), get directions to your destination with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with voice recognition, and make phone calls with Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® (EX-L and above). All your valuable items, like PDAs and wallets, are close by, safely stored inside the removable front center console (EX and above). Need a cold drink? No problem. Just reach down to the beverage cool box (EX-L and above) and grab a chilled drink or a snack. Reversing out of a tough parking space is a snap, courtesy of the multi-view rear camera (models with navigation).
All models feature an improved 3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 engine with 248 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Its Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) allows for exceptional power and fuel economy while meeting CARB's ULEV-2 emissions rating. A new 6-speed automatic transmission (Touring models) helps the Odyssey achieve class-leading fuel economy, while maintaining excellent performance for a van. To accomplish this high level of efficiency, the engineers needed more than just an efficient engine and transmission. Other features were added, like low-rolling resistance tires, a variable-displacement power-steering pump, and low-drag wheel bearings as well as aero improvements to the body.
Standard active safety features include the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), which helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard, and Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, which helps to detect and correct oversteer and understeer. Active front head restraints help reduce the likelihood of whiplash injuries in the event of a rear impact. The head restraints are designed to tilt forward in a fraction of a second to decrease the space between the back of the occupant's head and the head restraint. To help you avoid accidents in the first place, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) uses a warning icon that will illuminate within the gauge cluster, notifying the driver that significantly low pressure has been detected in one or more of the tires. Also for 2011, the Odyssey features up to five Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) seating positions, making the Odyssey an excellent baby mover. If the unthinkable happens, the Odyssey helps protect its passengers with the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which is designed to absorb impacts of vehicles of various sizes in the event of front-end collisions. Front 3-point seat belts with automatic tensioning system, and front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) all help to protect you and your passengers in sufficient impacts. Honda is committed to providing safety for everyone. That means crash protection not only for our own drivers and passengers, but also for the occupants of other vehicles, and injury mitigation for pedestrians. We are dedicated to identifying and implementing advanced designs and features that help enhance the safety of vehicles on the road. Learn more.
